Join versatile entertainer Stephen Lee Rich for “That Was Vaudeville” — a one-hour, one-man variety show combining music, comedy and history. You’ll hear music from the heyday of vaudeville to its declining years (roughly from the Prohibition era through the Second World War) along with explanations of what vaudeville was, how it worked, and its cultural impact. Stephen Lee spices the presentation with anecdotes of the stars of the era (many of whom later went into radio, movies and television) and rounds it all out with comedic story-telling and some yodeling (because every good vaudeville act needs a gimmick).

In the 1980s, when folk music venues in his native Chicago began to disappear, Stephen Lee began working in comedy clubs. He also worked in an outlaw-style country band, as an opening act and rhythm guitarist for an Elvis impersonator, and with various other artists to create a touring vaudeville troupe. Today he’s still commanding the stage with a combination of folk music, vintage standards and original songs. He tours prolifically as a solo act, appearing in venues throughout the Midwest, the South, and the Mid-Atlantic states.
